Show Notes

Welcome to Episode 4 of  My kids think I’m cool, BUT… Podcast. In today’s episode we will be talking about getting knocked up abroad. I’m using American english slang, so basically I’m saying getting pregnant abroad. In this episode, we will talk about: how moms can prepare for birth in Denmark, what to expect before and after birth, and how important mother groups are for international mothers.

It is an exciting moment for any new parent to become a new mom or dad, but it is also scary for some who does not have the friends, and family close to by.  My experience being pregnant in Denmark was fun, BUT lonely at times because I didn’t have anyone to share the experience with. Yes, I had my husband and his family but that was not the same from my own friends and family back in Los Angeles.

I love my in-laws and they helped me so much with my first pregnancy. I always felt welcomed, but I felt sad inside due to my friends and family not being close during this important time of my life. For those months, my friends and family couldn’t see my belly grow or feel when my daughter would kick.  They only got to experience my pregnancy through facetime or over the phone. Also, a picture of my stomach once in awhile.

The loneliness of being pregnant abroad is difficult for any new mothers. I think it takes incredible the strength for international mothers to live abroad and expecting.

This episode will be for women who are pregnant abroad OR women that just moved to Denmark with their new family. Also, The after birth -  WHICH NO ONE REALLY THINKS ABOUT!!!  THE DREADED POSTPARTUM!!!

All that is discussed today will be by experience from myself and my guest. Everyone has different experiences, and no one has really the same experience, so I would like to share what it was like for me WHILE LIVING IN DENMARK.

I have a very special guest. Her name is Helen Hansen. I met Helen a couple years ago when I joined a group called Mothering, the mother in Vejle. Helen created this group to help mothers in need of help. A mother can reach out anytime when they feel overwhelmed or need some help, and helen or another mother will come help. Helen is also a doula for any expecting mothers AND Lastly, she helps many new mothers get through the  post partrum period. She calls it the 4th Trimester. Helen has lived internationally, so she knows the feeling of being new to a foreign country.

If you want to reach out to Helen Hansen and learn more about Doula or support during the postpartum period, you can contact her:
